Karekare Education – an evolution in mathematics and statistics education is the creation of Dr Pip Arnold.
Karekare Education offers education consultany services specialising in mathematics and statistics leadership, curriculum and assessment support across all years of schooling.
Dr Pip Arnold
Pip has extensive experience in mathematics and statistics education. She has been a secondary teacher, a head of faculty, a secondary mathematics facilitator and a primary mathematics project director. Pip has been involved in both curriculum and assessment review and development. She was a member of the subject writing group for the mathematics and statistics learning area for the 2007 New Zealand Curriculum and a member of the realignment team for NCEA.
Pip has undertaken research in both mathematics and statistics education. Her master’s thesis focused on using learning through language activities in algebra. Her doctoral thesis looked at posing and answering statistical investigative questions. Resources from her master’s thesis and doctoral thesis will be available soon. Pip was a project leader for a TLRI research project with Association Professor Maxine Pfannkuch. The TLRI project looked at building students’ inferential reasoning in the statistics curriculum at levels 5 and 6.
